Today was the last day of our CSA, it was so dark during pick up....It is hard to beluece another season is already over. The change of season’s also calls for some house cleaning, rearranging and settling in for the winter

I also am in the process of planning the transition to our more Wintery nature table.....a barer scene, after the abundance of Autumn. Winter is always our least impressive table….After deciding to make a "jack frost" table puppet (with disastrous results!) and feeling the time crunch I decided to buy a Grey Winter Doll from Natural World Arts .

From this point on my blog will be more focussed on crafts and Winter projects than on the gardens and medicine, until the Spring fever and all the seed catalogs accumulate on the coffee table. The apprenticeship starts up again in April.

We never follow our “homeschool”plan for too long....we stray….fall prey to new books and ideas....maybe we are destined to be “unschoolers” after all, perhaps just borrowing some Waldorf principles and methods (although eurythmy- who can beat that!)

Additional Books we have enjoyed this Fall:

* Green Eggs and Ham! Dr Seuss (quite by accident, as I am not a Seuss
fan, but it fast became a favorite)
* The Surprise Doll by Morrell Gipson (this was her 3rd birthday book)
* The story of Johnny Appleseed by Aliki (a great version of this story)
* The Drum (A folk tale from India ) by Rob Cleveland (Zoe was given a great Drum for her birthday so I have been trying to find some stories, I think we'll work on learning the Little Drummer Boy for the holidays.
* The Autumn Story A Brambly Hedge Book
And we just discovered Flicka Ricka and Dicka (and the strawberries) By Maj Lindman (wish they had a wintery story!)
We are presently reading a version of Stone Soup by John Muth with great Asian illustrations.

Flicka, Ricka, Dicka and the New Friend deals with playing in the snow. There is also Flick, Ricka, Dicka and the New Skates, which is about ice skating. It's out of print, but you might be able to get it at the library, or find a used copy.
